Hindenburg as President
I was not involved the German politics until 1925, when I was convinced by nationalist politicians to run for president at the elections. Although a supporter of monarchy, I made no attempts to return to the old regime, but imposed authoritarian style of governing. When my governments faced the Great Depression, which deeply struck Germany, I provided the Reich government with additional powers including a right to dissolve the Reichstag. The political crisis followed in 1930 and resulted in the Reichstag's dissolution. The new parliament proved to be even less cooperative than its predecessor and Hindenburg introduced the system of presidential cabinets governing without party support in Reichstag, where National Socialists became the second largest party. In early 1932, the government was at a political crisis and I was 83 at the time, provided the Reich chancellor Heinrich Bruning with an excuse to propose the extension of presidential term without elections, but the Reichstag declined the proposal. At the elections in March/April 1932, I was able to win over the National Socialist candidate Adolf Hitler with the support of the Catholic Center Party and the Social Democrats. I believe one of my greatest mistakes was appointing Adolf Hitler as the Chancellor of Germany. After my death, Hitler took control of the government and instilled his ideology of Nazism.
Indeed, I must agree with you that putting Hitler in power was a great mistake on your part! The Nazis, led by their overly ambitious leader, have started an attempt to take over Europe and indoctrinate all people in their ways. We must all fight to prevent this from happening. A Second World War seems inevitable, but I am sure the Allies will win once more, if you will pardon me saying so.
ReplyDeleteI blame you for World War 2, personally. You should never give into peer pressure. Just saying. Anyways, Hitler has amassed an army and is pushing his luck. Don't worry, your mistake will soon be removed.
ReplyDeleteI must ask you why you gave into allowing Hitler assume such a high-ranking position. World War 2 was most prominently your fault. Millions of my people died at the hands of Nazism and the true monster; Hitler, because of you.

Why did you put Hitler in power? That led to the Nazis taking over Europe and almost causing the whole Jew population to be gone forever! >:( Because you appointed Hitler as the chancellor, World War II was partially your fault! Jews don't want to deal with Nazis anymore!

ReplyDeleteYou are to be blamed for my sorrow. You are to be blamed for my involvement in politics and the stress and suffering it caused me. You are responsible for the many deaths which grieved me so deeply. My fellow Jews, blamed, killed, and condemned all because of your decision to put Adolf Hitler into power. The Nazi regime caused many to suffer and in France especially, it was the cause of economic turmoil and general day to day fear. You are a terrible man. I detest the very fact that i am speaking to you.
